Gradients! Which patches are best for gradients.

A common problem is trying to get artwork that contains a gradient made into a nice looking patch.

Embroidered patches are not the best way to achieve this.

When choosing between different patch options, the selections can be overwhelming as there are many styles and types to choose from.

As we decide the right choice for your project, we take into consideration the artwork that will be used for the design of the patch and the intended results of the final product.

The two types of patches that work the best with artwork containing gradient colors are sublimated and photo-over patches.

We recommend one of those two processes if your art has the following:

  • An infinite number of colors.

  • A high level of detail and photorealistic details.

  • Smooth gradient colors.

  • It’s really a preference of what you’d like the final result to look like.

The sublimated process will result in a printed flat patch with no texture.
The Photo Over process is a pre-embroidered patch with colors printed on top of the patch to create more depth in the design.
This will result in a sublimated patch with a textured area in the design.

The main visual difference between Hard Enamel Pins and Soft Enamel Pins is the texture. While hard enamel has a smooth finish, soft enamel pins consist of dips and ridges.
